Kubb - a Swedish game.

Since I talked about a game called kubb a couple of days ago I thought I could explain a little bit more about it.
Kubb is a Swedish game that people have played all the way back to the Viking age, the game also have the nick name “Viking Chess” just because of that reason. Kubb is probably the most common game to play in Sweden during the summer, and almost every family has it at home.

In kubb there are twenty-three game pieces used
  • Ten Kubbs, rectangular wooden blocks 15 cm tall and 7 cm square on the end.
  • One King, a larger wooden piece 30 cm tall and 9 cm square on the end, sometimes adorned with a crown design on the top.
  • Six Batons, 30 cm long and 4.4 cm in diameter.
  • Six Field Marking Pins, to designate the corners of the pitch and the centerline.
The goal is to knock down the king before the other team but you have to knock down the “kubbs”
 first.

The picture above shows how the pieces should be placed, and if you are in team A then your job is to knock down team B's kubbs and the other way around. First when all the other teams kubbs is knocked down then you can knock down the king, and the first team to do that is the winners! But if you by accident knock down the king before the other teams kubbs are down then your team lose.

Kubb is actually a fun games to play with your family and friends and some times a game can last up to hours, and now you can even try it if you are in New York, they have kubb on the lawn in Bryant Park, so if you are up for a game and in New York then go over to Bryant Park and see if you can play a game of "viking chess".
