The importance of taking shower after working out.

Imagine that you are at the gym and you have been breaking a lot of sweat, you have been working out like an animal and you do not have any energy left in your body. Would you take a shower or skip it to get home faster so you can relax?

Many would answer that they would take a shower and get clean before going out, but when we are at the gym, most of the time the gym is packed with people and the last thing you want to do is to get in to a packed locker room and change clothes to get a shower. Most likely you would think that you will go home and take a nice relaxing bath. You should not wait until you get home to take a shower. You should take a shower directly after a workout.

I realized when I moved to the states that taking a shower after working out is a taboo, but in Sweden, taking shower after workouts is a must and children are emphasized to do it when they start kindergarten.

When we are working out we are breaking down our muscles and then we are getting healed, that’s a fact that almost everyone knows but it’s not only our muscles that breaks down during the workout. Believe it or not, but our immune system breaks down during the workout so it can also be healed and become stronger with time.  Now we all know that the gym is not the cleanest environment and we are grabbing and touching stuff that everyone else is touching. This means that the gym is full of bacteria and our immune system is down. This will lead to sickness and illness that will take away time from your life.

So you see, the best solution is to take a shower in a pact locker room, in case you don’t want to be sick or ill the next day.
