Every year Sweden has a gala on TV called “Svenska Hjälar” which directly translates to “Swedish Heroes”. Swedish heroes’ gala celebrates the people who made something specialfor someone else. It can be somethingbig or small, it canbe a person who has saved someone else’s life, stood up for an opinion, helped someone for a long time, or in different ways, been a support oran enthusiast.
I think this is a really good thing, civil courage should be rewarded! We live in a world where more and more people stop caring about others and just care about themselves. And unfortunately Sweden is a country where you are raised with the morals of “don’t get involve in other people’s business”. We are a country where you politely say Hi to our neighbors but nothing else. You don’t stand and chat and if your neighbor goes missing you really don’t reflect over it.
So this gala is an amazing thing in my opinion, and I still remember when I watched one of the galas several years ago, and they had a young guy in it being rewarded for being a Swedish Hero. He had saved a girl from being brutally raped. I will never remember what he said in the interview, “I heard her scream from the other side of the road, I started running towards her and it was like I could see her heart beating outside of her chest, that’s how afraid she were.” The man trying to rape the girl had a knife but this young guy didn’t even reflect over the fact that he could get hurt or even killed by the rapist, his only concern were to save the girl, and he did.
This story amazes me every time and I literally get Goosebumps writing about it. More creed to the civil people who stands up for the victims!
