Today my dog woke me up early, I don’t know why but every day when we have a lot of sun, Tysoon wakes me up to go out for a run. I guess my dog thinks he can get tanned in the sun.
After the run, me and some friends went to the city to do some paper work but once we got into the city we realized that this week is the handball tournament week in Gothenburg. At least 20 000 young handball athletes come to Gothenburg this week to play the biggest handball tournament in the world. This handball tournament is similar to the world cup but the different is that every country that plays in this tournament has a lot of teams with them. In a world cup, every nation has one team that represents the nation.
To my fellow Americans that believe that handball is a sport where you hit the ball against a wall with your hand. This is not the same Handball. Handball here in Europe is a serious sport and it is way different from the handball in US. In Europe teams plays against teams on a court that is almost twice the size of a basketball court and every team has 6 players on the court plus 1 goal keeper. The pro players are the height of the tallest basketball players or even taller. This is very tough sport and it can be compared to American football, where players can hit each other, but not the same way as football players hit each other, since they don’t have any protection.
I used to play handball before I started to play basketball, it is a funny and tough sport. Maybe colleges and high schools in US should start with this.
