This is the day; this is where almost every American stays home to do two things. Eat turkey and watch football with their family. 2012, America raised about 254 million turkeys for thanksgiving, almost one turkey per person. Not bad right?
This year was my third year celebrating the "holy" Thanksgiving and what I have realized is that it seems that no one knows why this holiday is celebrated, I mean they know it has to do with the pilgrims but that’s it. So now I will do everyone a favor and tell you guys what really happened in just a few sentences.
In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. The Plymouth colonists also known as the pilgrims were starving and freezing to death with no one helping them except for the Native Americans. The Native Americans gave food and shelter to the pilgrims and the next year the pilgrims responded their hospitality with a huge feast known as Thanksgiving. But here comes the part many people forget, after a few years more pilgrims came to America and what they did was to either slave or kill the Native Americans. Good way to show your appreciation.
Well you can know the history or not but the food is delicious and today people don’t really care about the reason of Thanksgiving the most important thing is to spend some quality time with your family and have a great dinner. I hope you all enjoyed your feast because I know I did.
