Since I came to New York I realized that sports are not just sports. For some people sports means their life and I can agree, I love basketball more than anything and some people love other sports more than anything but what I found out a few days ago made me laugh a lot.
I was working out as usual at my gym when suddenly my headphones died so I heard a sound of balls hitting the walls so I said to myself “what can that be?” I went out of the weight room and I saw at least 40 grown men and women throwing balls against each other. My first thought was “what is going on here?” then I realized that they were playing dodge ball.
When we were 8 years old in Sweden we played dodge ball for fun and it always was kind of a girly activity but apparently here in US it is a BIG thing and people take it serious. You might think that I am over exaggerating but I was hearing people trash talk to each other as if it was basketball.
This is not a sport for me, even though it could help me to get quicker. But if you guys are interested you should definitely go there and try it out and the people that plays seems like sweet people.
They play every Monday and Friday at 7pm at Tony Dapolito recreation center. It only requires a membership to the gym which is $75 for 6 months and you can use the pool, basketball court, weight room and track. This membership gives you also access to all the recreation centers in New York.
