In Sweden Lucia is celebrated in every school, daycare, and retirement home there is, it’s also celebrated in most offices around the country. The schools ad daycares starts rehearsing weeks in advance, and then when the day is there, the kids dress up to Lucia, who wear a white gown, and red band around it, and then a crown with candles in it. After Lucia comes her terns, they also where the white gown, and red band, but they have glitter in their hair, and not candles, they hold the candles instead. Then we have the start boys, gingerbread man, Santa and Mother Christmas. Then they go around in a line and sing different songs.
Until the age of 10 the parents and relatives comes to see their kids sing, but after 4th grade the celebration is only in schools, without the parents. After the celebrations the schools offer glögg, julmust, gingerbread, and lussekatter (saffronbuns). We also have a big Lucia celebration that is being showed on TV, from the capital city. The girl is chosen by the Swedes by voting on their favorite candidate.
