About 'temporary tattoo pen'|How to Make Home Made Tattoos?
Slinging ink is one of the coolest jobs you could ever imagine; you get to meet insane but fun-loving people, make money from your talent and people surprise you with tattoo related gifts all the time. Be it glow in the dark ink to designer power supplies, we've been fortunate enough to get a lot of free things at the shop. A long time customer was literally jumping out of her skin when she showed up for her appointment; she found a set of Tattoo Gel Pens and wanted to see what we thought of them for her daughters thirteenth birthday party. She wanted to get a set for each of the girls attending the sleepover party but wanted to see what we thought of them. What exactly is a tattoo gel pen? It's a gel pen that has ink that is slightly thinner than a regular gel pen so that it will write on skin. You can use these on paper but the colors won't be as dark as a regular gel pen. These are designed for use on skin but you do have to be careful that you don't go crazy with them. You can draw on pretty much any part of the body with them but if you keep dragging the tip of the pen over an area you could agitate it and make it extremely sore. These are not designed to be used internally or on sensitive parts of the body. The ink is non-toxic so that in and of itself won't cause any problems but allergic reactions can happen. If you have ever had any reactions to ink then it's a safe bet that these, when used on the skin, will have the same type of undesirable results. You get ten gel pens in the set, ten colors including red, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink, orange, black, gray and lime green. The girlie teen and tween appeal to these is through the roof; give chicks something that they can use to make themselves even more girlie and they will do so without a second thought. The stencils that come with the set are pretty much useless; they rip easily and are common things like stars, hearts, moons and a "#1" symbol. We tried these out at the shop and had some fun with them but if you crack a sweat the colors run and you end up with the ink all over your skin and clothing. It does wash out of almost everything, the only article of clothing that was permanently stained was a sweatshirt. The colors that you get from these depend on the color of your skin; the lighter you are the more of the color you will see. These do not have glitter in them so when you see them in the package and think that you are going to be completely sparkly from head to toe. The glitter is on the barrel, another slick marketing tool to sell this to the uber girlie girls. The person that brought these in said that she found them for $6.99 a set; that's not bad but you could get almost the same color selection from regular gel pens but that type of ink is harder to get it to stick to skin and to wash off when the party is over. I can just imagine the fun that tween girls could have with these, they could write "I ♥ The Jonas Brother" all over their arms and wash it off before they left school for the day. The ink does indeed wash off with soap and water but if you are sitting there for hours on end writing on your skin it is going to take a while to get it all off. And please, make sure you rinse the sink out because this stuff sticks to the inside of it like glue to paper. What do I think of them? That's a hard one to answer. I take tattoos seriously and think that they are something that's for adults. Yes, I have bought some for the brood and Annabelle in the past but they were the "lick and stick" kind that you wet, press on the skin and remove with rubbing alcohol. The Tattoo Gel Pens give skin art a new look and as much as I hate to say it, it can send out the wrong signal to people who may see girls adorned with messages their 'friends' may have written on them. I am sure that these are a fun thing for slumber parties but I also know how mean some girls can be; it wouldn't be hard to swap a regular gel pen into the mix then write some very mean things on someone. The customer did let us keep the set of Tattoo Gel Pens to play around with. She called a few days later and we gave her the pros and cons of them and she decided to only get a few sets of them and not let the girls keep them when they were done with the sleepover. I had to agree with her reasoning; you never know how parents are going to react to their child coming home with something like this and while it might steam some parents that they did it at a party it's a whole different ballgame when they have a full set at home and start doing their own temporary body modifications on a daily basis. |
