According to one of the newspapers I read, the police car, was sent to the road that had been illegally closed off to give everybody on the spot fines, even the people who where just watching.
The guy who held the whole race went up to talk to the cops, and apparently he said "haven't you guys ever been young once?" To which the policemen had just replied with a laugh. And then the guy dared them to join as a joke, but to his surprise the policemen drove up the car next to another one who was ready to race, and joined the race.
The guy in the other car was interviewed as well, and to the question on who won he answered that he started off first in the race, but when he came up to 50km/h he was afraid to go faster, in case he would get a fine, so the police won, and drove off. Not one fine got handed out.
This is now a big discussion in Sweden as well as other countries around Sweden, adults are furious that the police could do something like this, while younger people now are laughing and thinking it was cool. Maybe the police tried to connect to the young adults in the race, hoping that what they did will give the police a more human and fun side to the kids, because the police hate and violence is getting bigger and bigger in Sweden, and it's most common among the youth, maybe it was an attempt to connect and build a bond?
The two policemen who drove the car, are being investigated now and are waiting to here if they will be able to keep their jobs, or get fired.
