Before moving to the States I barely knew anything about what Americans call “football”. In Europe “football” is what it sounds like a foot that kicks the ball aka soccer. I don’t know how Americans came up with the name “football” when the only thing you do in this sport is throwing and running with the ball. However, despite the silly name it came to my attention that I would fall in love with this sport.
I think the reason that Europeans do not attract to this sport is because we don’t understand the rules and how the game works. But for a person like me who have experienced live games and seen the intensity in the sport, it is unfair to say that you will not enjoy the game.
Football here in USA is sacred; I had a professor at Berkeley who was from the state of Texas. He told me that in Texas the two most important priorities are God and football. I believe if you can make that statement about a sport then it means everything to the people.
I have said many times to my friends that if I was born in USA then I would have probably played football instead of basketball. It is too late for me to begin with this sport and take it to a serious level. But maybe one day my kids might become football players.
