For all non soccer interested people in Gothenburg, the Gothia Cup week is the worst week during the year. A lot of adults and older people go on vacation, just to get away form all the commotion, just imagine all these people in this little town, the buses and trams are all full, and sometimes or a lot of times, you can't even get on the bus/tram because of all the people.
So those people are happy now when Gothia Cup ended today, but for us who loves sports, and having this wonderful and lively diversity in our town, we are sad. Talking in the city tomorrow is not going to be the same, it's going to feel like a ghost town. No happy teams cheering, or celebrating. The streets are going to empty and so are the soccer fields.
The kids who are the same age as the players are the once that will be the most sad, being 12-17 years old during Gothia Cup is the best feeling ever, all you do during this week is spending time at the soccer fields during the days, and at night you go to the disco. I can't imagine how many hearts that are breaking, and how many kids that are crying because they might never see their crush/love again.
Gothia Cup is an amazing thing for the kids around the world, they take the common love for a sport and bring kids together from all over the world, friendships that will last a life time are born here, love is being born here, and I cant recall one time I've ever heard anything negative being said about this tournament, with the exception that some people complain about the large amount of people.
I'm proud that my country and most of all MY city is the host for such an amazing thing, I'm proud that this is a tradition we have here, and have had for quite sometime, and I hope that it will live on for a long time.
