First Iranian Born Basketball Player Drafted

As you all know the NBA draft has been going on this last week and for some young players the ultimate dream came through.

One player that really made history was the Forward player of the Oregon Ducks Arsalan Kazemi who got drafted by the 7Sixers. With a 9.2 points per game and a total of 912 rebounds throughout his college season leaves him as the number one rebounder in college basketball. Now the reason he made history was because Kazemi is the first Iranian born player who get drafted to the NBA after college.

The first Iranian basketball player in the NBA was Hamed Haddadi who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies, but he did not play college ball before entering the NBA.
Kazemi was one of the last players getting drafted and in my opinion he is an underrated player who will make a big name in the league if he will get the chance.

Game 6 ( RAY ALLEN)

What did just happened? the San Antonio Spurs were supposed to win this game!
With only a few seconds left in the game, Miami’s best 3 point shooter stepped up and tied the game and sent the Heat to OT.  In the OT the Heat won with 3 points, but the Spurs had the whole game in their hands.
Miami really proved today that the game is not over until the time is up. I am rooting for the Spurs, but I have to give all credit to RAY RAY for being so awesome.
The series are heading towards game 7, the last and most important game for both teams. The game will be played in Miami on June 21th. DO NOT MISS IT!

Heat Blow Out Pacers In Game 7

Only a few minutes left of the last quarter between the Miami Heat and the Indian Pacers. As it looks right now Miami are up with at least 20 points and a comeback from Indiana’s seems quite impossible.
I give all credit to the Pacers for taking the East finals to game 7, it’s not an easy thing to do specially not against Miami, but I was hoping to see the Pacers in the NBA finals against the Spurs. Hopefully the Spurs take the Finals.

Well done Pacers!

First Active Gay NBA Player

The NBA is in the middle of the playoffs when the breaking news came out about the first active gay player in the NBA.

Jason Collins, the 12 year veteran came out after the Boston incident and told Sports Illustrated through an essay that he is proud of his sexuality. Today everyone in the basketball world are talking about it. While some think is weird others admires he being brave. Many star players in the NBA have been twittering about how proud they are over Mr. Collins act.
I believe it is great that he has come out with this, what I don’t like is that we live in the 21st century and people are still acting as if this is a weird thing. Gay, straight, bi you name it, it is all about the game and not about the player’s sexuality.

When sport Illustrated asked Collins why he came out with it he answered:

” I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, “I’m different.” If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”

"By its nature, my double life has kept me from getting

close to any of my teammates. Early in my career I worked hard at acting straight, but as I got more comfortable in my straight mask it required less effort. In recent days, though, little has separated “mask on, mask off.” Personally, I don’t like to dwell in someone else’s private life, and I hope players and coaches show me the same respect. When I’m with my team I’m all about working hard and winning games. A good teammate supports you no matter what."

That is so true, a good teammate is your family and he or she will support you no matter what!

Aftermath ( Off-Season)

Last weekend must have been my toughest weekend ever, after an unfair loss in the championship I did not know how to motivate and to keep pushing myself. Imagine workingout twice everyday, workingout when others were sleeping, workingout while others were out having fun and in the end losing in a semifinal against a team that we could had beat in any given day.
I took Saturday and Sunday off to really think about what went wrong , many said to me to forget about it and think about next year, well that is true but how can I forget what happen and just focus on next season. If I don’t realize what was wrong and if I don’t remember myself how that feeling of losing was then I would never be able to push myself.
Monday morning I was back at it again, practice, school then practice again. Most people say that you should take two weeks off then start workingout again, I don’t believe in that. I believe resting is precious that you have to earn it and no matter how much I try to describe that we deserved that win we still lost and as I can see it we did not deserve any rest. I can only speak from my point of view, that’s the way I am made.
One promise I am making for next season is that I will do whatever I can to win the Championship and I have faith in my fellow brothers on the team that they will do the same.

Game vs King College

Today we played Kings College, a very easy game but still important to our advancing to the USCAA Championship.

First half we started with a great defense and a wonderful offence; we were moving the ball, taking the right shots and sometimes even sacrificing our own shot so somebody else on the team could get a better shot. Really great team work on the court, something that we have to apply to every game we play.
Second half same thing here, great defense and great offence. I admire Kings College, because they were disciplined, had respect and really tried their best and I give them a lot of credit for that.

Coaches decided to play everyone today which I believe is great because these freshman’s have to get some experience on the court but there are some few things that have to be worked on but hey, they got at least another 3 years left.
Tomorrow we play our last “home” game, the game will be at Hostos at 11.45 against Albany
